Why Process Matters in Mobile Development
The most common reasons mobile app projects fail — budget overruns, missed deadlines, poor user adoption — are almost always process failures, not technical ones. A well-defined development process creates predictability, reduces rework, and ensures that the final product actually solves the problem it was designed to solve.
At Arnnima Solution, our 7-stage mobile development process has been refined across 50+ projects. Every stage has defined deliverables and client sign-off points, ensuring complete transparency and alignment throughout the engagement.
Stage 1 — Discovery & Strategy
Every successful app starts with a thorough discovery phase. This is where we invest time understanding your business, your users, and the problem you're solving before writing a single line of code.
- Stakeholder interviews: Understanding business goals, success metrics, and constraints from key decision-makers.
- Market research: Analysing the competitive landscape, identifying gaps, and understanding user expectations in your category.
- User research: Interviews or surveys with target users to understand their pain points, workflows, and preferences.
- Technical feasibility: Assessing integration requirements, data sources, and any technical constraints.
Deliverable: Discovery report with problem statement, target user profiles, competitive analysis, and recommended approach.
Stage 2 — Product Definition
With discovery insights in hand, we define exactly what the app will do — and crucially, what it won't do in the first version.
- User personas and journey maps
- User stories and acceptance criteria for each feature
- Feature prioritisation using MoSCoW (Must have, Should have, Could have, Won't have)
- MVP scope definition — the minimum set of features needed to validate the core value proposition
Deliverable: Product Requirements Document (PRD) and prioritised feature backlog.
Stage 3 — UI/UX Design
Design is where the product comes to life visually. Our design process is iterative and user-centred, with multiple rounds of feedback before any development begins.
- Information architecture and navigation structure
- Low-fidelity wireframes for all key screens
- High-fidelity mockups with brand-aligned visual design
- Interactive prototype for user testing
- Design system and component library for development handoff
Deliverable: Approved high-fidelity designs and interactive prototype.
Stage 4 — Technical Architecture
Before development begins, we define the technical foundation of the app. Decisions made here have long-term implications for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Technology stack selection (Flutter, React Native, Swift, Kotlin)
- Backend architecture (REST API, GraphQL, microservices)
- Database design and data modelling
- Third-party service selection (payment, maps, analytics, push notifications)
- Security architecture and data protection strategy
Deliverable: Technical architecture document and development environment setup.
Stage 5 — Development (Agile Sprints)
Development happens in 2-week sprints, with each sprint delivering working, tested functionality. This approach ensures continuous progress visibility and allows for course corrections based on feedback.
- Sprint planning with prioritised backlog items
- Daily standups to surface blockers early
- Parallel frontend and backend development
- Code reviews for every pull request
- Sprint demo and client review at the end of each sprint
Deliverable: Working app increments delivered every 2 weeks.
Stage 6 — Quality Assurance
QA is not a final gate — it runs throughout development. But the dedicated QA phase before launch is comprehensive and systematic.
- Functional testing against all acceptance criteria
- Performance testing (load times, memory usage, battery impact)
- Security testing (OWASP Mobile Top 10)
- Device compatibility testing across a range of iOS and Android devices
- Accessibility testing
- User acceptance testing (UAT) with real users
Deliverable: QA report with all issues resolved and sign-off for launch.
Stage 7 — Launch & Post-Launch
App store submission is a process in itself, with specific requirements for screenshots, descriptions, privacy policies, and compliance with store guidelines. We handle the entire submission process.
- App Store and Google Play submission and review management
- Production environment setup and monitoring
- Crash reporting and analytics configuration
- Post-launch bug fix support (typically 30–90 days)
- Iterative feature releases based on user feedback and analytics
Deliverable: Live app on both stores, monitoring dashboards, and post-launch support plan.
